Bitterdankenfreude Joyful Thanks for Bitter Defeata Powerful Life and Career Tool

'Bitterdankenfreude' Joyful Thanks for Bitter Defeatâ€"a Powerful Life and Career Tool Have you never been violated such that was perfect? It starts with somebody or some circumstance destroying your life or if nothing else making it a mess harder, pulverizing your expectations and sharply disillusioning or disheartening you. Making way for Bitterdankenfreude You go after a fantasy position and are overlooked, or more terrible, get it and lose it to cutting back. Or on the other hand a malignant associate at work designs your being disregarded for an advancement, or, inconceivably, gets you unjustifiably terminated. At that point there's the instructor who disclosed to you that you could never add up to in excess of an immaterial shadow on society. Happens constantly, regardless of whether not generally to a similar individual, e.g., Biblical Job. In any case, at that point or fairly later, you find that the foreboding shadow of wrong had a brilliant right silver covering, made something happen, came free from the shadows, and acknowledged you owed an obligation of appreciation to your beforehand unrecognized, accidental sponsor or possibly to your karma. At that point of acknowledgment, your sharpness changes to a sort of euphoriaâ€"for which we have no word in English. Along these lines, having as of late investigated fun at others' expense, freudenschade and Visa Canada's smallenfreuden in different articles of mine, I currently expand and most likely end my raid into [ersatz] German with one progressively Germanic-sounding commitment, authored to catch the delight of understanding that having been harmed truly helped, that your tenacious adversary has become your accidental companion, and that, as the Chinese and Japanese are constantly cited as saying, each emergency is a chance. That idea is bitterdankenfreudeâ€" an able play on words on German's bitte [please], danken [thank] and freude [joy]. Talking about and in Japanese, they have a comparative idea: arigatai meiwakuâ€" inconvenience [or nuisance] that benefits much appreciated, utilized amusingly, as a likeness our a debt of gratitude is in order to no end, with a similar subtlety recommending that the much obliged is for something that is not as much as nothing, i.e., a net negative. Feeling as a Goal Ordinarily, feelings are results, as opposed to focusesâ€"with the recognizable special case of mopey youngsters and Harlequin-novel addicts who need to comprehend what love is as an all-expending aspiration. Be that as it may, bitterdankenfreude ought not exclusively be the enthusiastic outcome of discovering openings in an emergency, yet in addition a deliberately define objectiveâ€"the target of encountering bitterdankenfreude once conditions warrant it. This doesn't mean searching out enemies, pitiless bits of destiny or what has all the earmarks of being misfortune. That is neither important nor alluring, since foes and misfortune will consistently discover you; and disagreeable alternate routes are only thatâ€"extremely undesirable. In any case, when they have discovered you, the brilliant activity is to for you to proactively discover or make bitterdankenfreude as an impetus and center, by changing or utilizing whatever misfortune or deficit that has been caused upon you, to your net and extreme preferred position. Once [anticipatory or retroactive] bitterdankenfreude is your objective, the open doors are probably going to follow or be valued. Enormous Payoffs from Failure and Adversity Here's a rundown of illustrative big name profession and life triumphs powered by affliction that probably activated, been catalyzed by or absolutely justified delayed bitterdankenfreude. Among them, this notable model, cited from the in advance of refered to source: He didn't talk until he was four years of age, and couldnt read until he was seven. His folks thought he was 'sub-ordinary'. He was removed from school and his instructors depicted him as 'intellectually moderate, unsociable and adrip always in absurd dreams.' That was Einstein. The Forms of Bitterdankenfreude Bitterdankenfreude has in any event three structures that include succeeding as a result of just as in spite of disappointment and difficulty: 1. The passionate aftereffect of adhering to an objective in light of dismissal, mortification, jeering, wariness, being derided and considerably increasingly exceptional opposition, including from Fate. In this case, the powers of dismissal are countered with a more than equivalent power of constancy and persistence. Talking about freude, the narrative of Sigmund Freud, originator of therapy as a control, impeccably delineates this structure: Despite antagonistic and deriding dismissal of his initial thoughts, e.g., of the oblivious brain as an idiocy, since mind is characterized as cognizant, Freud proceeded to rule logical and pop-social brain science for the following century. 2. The passionate consequence of exchanging objectives on account of such negative reactions from others or unfeeling Fate. Freud and numerous other people who got threatening gatherings for their thoughts and desire endured. However, similarly as frequently the easiest course of action is to switch, as opposed to oppose and battle. In any case, in this example as well, misfortune, debilitation, antagonistic vibe and deterrent can and do pay off astoundingly, the same number of affirmed instances of astonishing vocation and objective exchanging sufficiently bear witness to. Think about this case, for instance [cited at the previous link]: … began as a paper editorial manager, however was evidently terminated in light of the fact that he needed creative mind and had nothing but bad thoughts. That was Walt Disney, one among 15 movers and shakers, including Madonna and NY's Mayor Bloomberg, who reacted to being canned from occupations by making budgetary realms subsequent to exchanging or while adhering to their aspirations. 3. The enthusiastic consequence of declining to acknowledge repellent suggested objectives: Imagine what might have happened to youngster Sylvester Stallone if, while enlisted at the American College in Leysin, Switzerland, he had acknowledged what has been accounted for as his school professional fitness test result that recommended he was most appropriate for an occupation in a lift. He likely could never have had the staggering vocation that has totally outperformed the impediments proposed by master assessment about his profession possibilities. Also, if that test outcome terrified him into unlimited desire or activated disavowal, it and the test fashioners and directors earned a bitterdankenfreude-touched gesture of much obliged. Then again, if that test outcome so damaged Sly into a condition of mental deficiency that he lost even the certainty required to do an insignificant lift work, e.g., administrator or repairman, any possible bitterdankenfreude would have been justified for his winding up in any vocation superior to that one. Note that this third type of bitterdankenfreude isn't reducible to both of the initial two, since it doesn't require supporting or exchanging any objective. Rather, it works absolutely adversely, through dismissal of outside strain to pick a given objective. In any case, life being what it is, of course some elective outcome, if not unequivocal objective, will follow after dismissal of the weight upheld objective. At whatever point the possible resultâ€"regardless of whether just coming about because of individual float or sheer karma, as opposed to objectâ€"is better than what passive consent would have yielded, bitterdankenfreude is as justified as it is the point at which the consequence of arranged exchanging or perseverance. Be that as it may, given that the best type of bitterdankenfreude is proactive, when given the insubordination situation introduced here, the best key course is to define one's very own elective objective to make way for ensuing bitterdankenfreude openings in objective interest or objective exchanging. Ideal Bitterdankenfreude Management The way to powerful, ideal bitterdankenfreude the executives is to decipher that feeling as the reason for progress instead of the outcome of difficulties, despite the fact that on the off chance that it is one it is the other. This distinction in observation is reflected in the more noteworthy level of proactivity, hopefulness and association that portrays a causative bitterdankenfreude viewpoint, rather than that of receptive bitterdankenfreude. As I put it in my young adult diary, a quite a while back, under conditions I cannot remember, Feeling can be the maternity specialist just as the posterity of activity. Following up on that longstanding case, I currently suggest that, as another feeling, bitterdankenfreude can, does and ought to be utilized to demonstrate and show it.

New Job Postings How Quickly Should I Respond

New Job Postings How Quickly Should I Respond When a new job posting pops up in your inbox or feed, its hard to not want to jump at the opportunity and apply immediately. But what most candidates dont understand is that its not a race to the finish, and being first in line is far less important that putting your best foot forward. There’s often a balance of both excitement and panic when I talk to a potential client in this scenario, because they’re eager to apply to what seems like a really great opportunity, while at the same time, realizing their resume is not where they’d like it to be. All they hear is the clock ticking. And that is a legitimate concern, because from the moment the job posting goes up (or within about 10 minutes of that), recruiters and hiring managers are already receiving resume submissions to their inbox, and starting to review and build their list of potential interview candidates. Now this is just a typical scenario the more niche or high-level the position (i.e. the more difficult to fill), the longer the hiring, review, and application process is likely to take. And this can also be affected dramatically by the organization’s sense of priority in filling the position it might be listed as an immediate need, but “immediate” really means “right after we fill these other 15 roles for which weve allocated our budget and manpower first.” Case in point: It’s really hard to know what the hiring timeline, and sense of urgency, will ultimately look like. And as a candidate, it can help to have a clearer idea of what your best odds are and how to maximize them. What you CAN do is come prepared so that you can position yourself to make the best possible impression, and retain your greatest odds of standing out among a pile of applicants. Here are a few key tips: 1) There is no “first-come, first-serve” in the HR world it’s about finding the best fit. Sometimes that takes 2 days, sometimes it takes 6 months. Never apply without a solid resume in the interest of submitting a quick application instead. Your chances are far better if you wait a couple days to apply so that you can get your resume in shape, versus being one of the first to apply with a crappy resume. 2) Your email subject line can make all the difference. Recruiters get hundreds of email with the same subject line, either simply the job title Graphic Designer Job, or some variation of that. I always opened the ones that stood out a little bit more and made me feel confident that there was something interesting and relevant inside a sneak peak of who the candidate was: Sam Smith Award-Winning Senior Graphic Designer With 8 Years Exp. 3) Include an abbreviated version of your cover letter in the body of your email. Cover letters dont always get read thats a fact and particularly for career changers, that means potentially missing out on pertinent information. Its fine to cut and paste your existing letter into the body of the email, but I suggest including a brief introduction letter 3-4 sentence introducing yourself and setting the stage for the documents youve attached: Dear Hiring Manager- My name is Sam Smith and I am an award-winning graphic designer with 8 years of experience. Im actively in the process of relocating to New York City from Santa Fe, and am available immediately for new opportunities, ideally in the startup space. Most of my experience has been with small design firms such as yours, working on both interactive and print projects. My resume and full cover letter are attached, and you can view my portfolio at: www.bklynresumestudio.com. Thank You! Sam Smith. 4) Avoid inappropriate attention-grabbing tactics (like typing your name or email subject in all caps). It comes off as trying too hard, and you’re going for confident and professional. 5) Aim to apply within the first week of the posting. It’s likely that recruiters will take at least that amount of time to sift through the initial inquiries and starting building a list of people they’re interested in interviewing. 6) But don’t pass up the position simply because it’s several weeks old. Candidates don’t always work out, offers aren’t always accepted, and positions often go on hold. Yes, it may be out of date, and while it shouldn’t be the basket into which you place all your eggs, it’s worth a shot in putting in your application. Every position will be different from the timeline, the requirements, the recruiting process, and even the sense of urgency, and its important to understand that and keep your expectations flexible. Job searching is a marathon, not a sprint, and you need to have the right tools and level of preparation in place if you want to stay ahead of the competition.

Step by step instructions to Successfully Work Abroad - The Muse Step by step instructions to Successfully Work Abroad Do you dream about working abroad? We get it. Working abroad is the best of the two universes: you can develop your profession while leaving on a once in a blue moon experience in another spot. A large number of us fantasy about creation that sort of move, however feel scared by the possibility of not just securing the correct position in the opportune spot, yet in addition making the significant stride of building an actual existence and profession in an alternate nation. We addressed Anna Bertoldini, who experienced childhood in Venice, Italy and concentrated in the United States and Austria before working abroad in Budapest, Hungary as an Employer Brand Content Coordinator at BlackRock. Having lived in five nations, Bertoldini is a specialist in adjusting to new societies. Find out about her encounters and afterward set up your fantasies. Do Your Research The world is a major spot, and there are such huge numbers of areas where you can fabricate your vocation. In choosing where you need to work, zoom out and consider the sort of experience you'd prefer to have: Is there a locale of the world you've for the longest time been itching to investigate? What sort of everyday way of life would you say you are searching for? Is there a specific atmosphere you like? How agreeable would you say you are exploring life in another dialect? In case you're as of now working for a universal association, look into office areas in territories you're keen on moving to. On the off chance that you need to switch gears, investigate organizations that line up with your optimal experience. Bertoldini suggests visiting the spot you're keen on moving to if it's doable. She visited Budapest in the midst of a get-away and cherished the city's lively culture and lovely neighborhoods. In any case, recall that working in a nation or city isn't equivalent to traveling there. While hitting the visitor problem areas is incredible, attempt to investigate neighborhoods where local people live, visit supermarkets, and sit in eateries. At that point you can improve and address different expats who live there to get a feeling of what everyday life resembles. Also, in case you're truly thinking about making a move, bring a more profound jump into the way of life. BlackRock has become an idea head in Hungary, taking an interest in occasions, for example, the OPEN Conference, a decent variety iniative established in Hungary, and Brainbar, where visitors can cooperate with speakers to discuss central issues concerning what's to come. As enticing all things considered to move to an excellent spot for the area and way of life, don't do it at the expense of your vocation. There's nothing more terrible than moving to a nation for an occupation you wind up loathing, particularly if your legitimate status relies upon a business supported visa. Be proactive about looking into the notoriety of any organization you're thinking about. Prior to a meeting, set up a rundown of inquiries regarding the organization's working language, procedures, and culture. What's more, recall, current representatives can be an incredible wellspring of intel. Get ready for Growing Pains As energizing all things considered to move and work abroad, such momentous change can likewise welcome on floods of uneasiness. In spite of the fact that she has broad involvement in the calculated show of moving and beginning another life in an alternate city or nation, Bertoldini perceived that every nation has various conventions and didn't know how she would adjust. I wish I wouldn't have stressed such a great amount over coming to Budapest, I was truly worrying myself, she says. At the point when you begin to get maneuvered into restless considerations, advise yourself that it's normal to experience developing torments, particularly during times of change. Set aside some effort to learn and make sure to excuse yourself, heaps of things are new and incorporation is a moderate procedure it requires some investment, Bertoldini includes. At the point when you live and work abroad, culture stun is an undeniable thing. Schedules and social standards you underestimate don't exist in different nations. Rather than battling against them, perceive the advantage of an alternate method of doing things-learn new traditions and challenge yourself to adjust to various strategic policies. Bertoldini suggests you get through the way of life stun by being open and posing loads of inquiries, which signs to your associates that you're keen on their way of life and ready to adjust. The vast majority, she says, truly welcome the exertion and are glad to clarify the intricate details of their way of life, so don't be timid. Construct a Community Whenever you move some place new, you have to put resources into building a network, and working abroad is no special case. It takes around 40-60 hours to become companions, so you have to invest a great deal of energy inside and outside of the workplace to produce a bond. Try not to be reluctant to make the main move. First and foremost, I was consistently the one approaching partners and getting some information about after-work or end of the week plans, says Bertoldini. Be that as it may, as I began to become acquainted with more individuals, they started to invite me into their circles and welcome me to go out with them. Past work associates, Bertoldini likewise took advantage of Facebook gatherings and Meetups, which empowered her to meet individual expats grasping life in another culture. The time, vitality, and duty more than paid off-following nine months in Budapest, Bertoldini now has an awesome system of companions and associates, and she anticipates remaining. 4 Reasons to Create a Good Company Culture

4 Reasons to Create a Good Company Culture Company culture is a tough thing to get right and yet, more often than not, a business does not put any work in to developing its own internal culture. For many of today’s modern job-seekers, they are not just looking for a job that pays the rent; they are looking for careers with progression. They are looking for something more than just a desk and a computer; they are looking for an identity linked to their role. They want a company with personality. If you wanted a simple definition of company culture, then summing up your company personality is one way of looking at it. In terms of an example, think of this; is the place where you work the type of place you could go to the boss with a new, almost slightly outlandish project idea? Or is it best to ‘keep quiet’ and not ‘rock the boat’? In other words, how does the organisation embrace something new? How does it adapt and thrive in a constantly fluctuating marketplace? Why bother? If all seems simply fabulous in your organisation, then the culture is not broken, or is it? Why should you bother with the culture in your company is a question that can be best answered with another question. How are your employees motivated? Are they enthusiastic? If it always seems like the same old same old, and people squabble, fall out and the office is full of politics, then the culture of your organisation may need fixing because it is broken. However, fixing it to create a modern, vibrant and successful culture within your organisation is not easy. If it was, we would all be doing it and would all be successful, and every company across the world would be full of happy, enthused employees. But this is not the case. Thus, there are four factors (at least, possibly more) that you need to help your company culture along, making it successful and vibrant. Factor 1 Hiring people that fit: This may sound odd, discriminatory almost, but taking your time and hiring people that fit with your company ethos will ensure that your internal company culture does not take a nose dive before you have even started. However, when the pressure is on, the hiring process can lead to people being hired on a whim or in a rush. Hence, you need to ensure that your hiring process is rigorous. Some companies ask prospective employees to shadow a current employee for a day or two, to see if they have the aptitude for the organisation, as well as the skills for the job. One bad hiring decision can lead to you inadvertently introducing a toxic element into your company; choose with care! Factor 2 Why do people want to work for you? An obvious question and yet one which remains hidden in plain sight; in other words, it is not one that is often asked at interviews. When asking this at an interview, you want to see what potential employees know about the company. It’s not just about tripping off a list of products and services, or the names of the CEOs from the year 1917 to the present day â€" this is not a Mastermind competition. Whilst all these facts are useful for proving the candidate has done their research, they are not really delving into the values, mission and ethos of the company. This may mean that every employee â€" new and old â€" needs to be acutely aware of what the ethos of the company is. In other words, everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. Factor 3 Good choices can originate from anywhere: We have touched on this previously, insofar as good ideas, projects and decisions do not always need to come from the management level of the organisation. Sometimes, the best decisions and ideas can come from the people who see the picture far more clearly that the management ever can. In many organisations that are seriously successful, the employees are not people who sit at their desks from 9 till 5 and do as they are told. The culture is vibrant and lively because the employees are encouraged to be vibrant and lively. Factor 4 Team spirit: A team in your organisation functions just like a team in a competitive sport â€" working together and harnessing each other’s strengths and weaknesses. In companies where culture is deemed ‘not so great’, the team is often a bunch of individuals that sit in the same room. They may not dislike each other but are they really pulling together? A good company culture is about people operating and dovetailing together, not standing alone and only asking for ‘help’ when they simply cannot manage the good fight on their own any more. A thriving company needs a good culture where people don’t feel that struggling or not coping are a weakness or a daily occurrence. If you want to grow your business you need a good, vibrant culture at the heart of your business. What does your culture say about your company? Author: James from Staffbay.

Use LinkedIn Resumes Writing Service To Successfully Write And Post Your Resume

Use LinkedIn Resumes Writing Service To Successfully Write And Post Your ResumeThere is a new LinkedIn resume writing service that you can use. These services are rapidly gaining popularity, and if you haven't yet signed up for one, then I'm sure you know someone who has. While many employers still prefer the old resume, the rise of these services is due in large part to the fact that so many people are opting to fill out their resumes on the internet. The rise of career sites and forums that encourage job-hunting has also created a demand for 'write once, get it done' opportunities. It is easy to feel overwhelmed when trying to create a professional resume for your new job. Even if you know what you want, it is extremely difficult to choose the proper format or embellishments. This is where a good resume writing service can come in handy.A 'style letter' can be completed by filling out a form on the company's website. Alternatively, you may want to consider working with an expert to put together a sample letter. This will allow you to review the 'official' format before submitting it.An added bonus of this service is that you have to follow instructions on how to actually write the letter and the written section. This means that there are no surprises when the letter is returned to you. This should give you confidence that your resume is 'done' and ready to be reviewed. One common problem that employers encounter is hiring someone who doesn't know how to fill out the information correctly. It can be especially difficult when you're writing a short and sweet resume. As a result, this type of service provides the opportunity to get professional guidance and a 're-do' option for those who feel like they are starting from scratch. By allowing for re-writing options, a resume writing service allows you to relax and enjoy the process. An added benefit to using a resume writing service is that it allows you to use the power of the 'sharing' platform that is Reddit. You can post a link to your resume to the front page of the popular website, giving you instant access to millions of people across the world. Those who are interested in your position will see your link and be able to contact you. The thought of using the power of Reddit to your advantage should be enough for you to sign up for a LinkedIn resume writing service.Another reason to use a LinkedIn resume writing service is that it is convenient for you to follow along with the process. With a resume, you usually have to print it out and take it to a job interview. With a website, you can share it online with your friends and family, allowing them to see the letter before sending it off to your prospective employer. You will find that this can be very helpful, especially if your friends and family know more about your career than you do.Finally, the Reddit powers of sharing are becoming more important as we are all increasingly connected. Many companies are currently requiring a LinkedIn p rofile to apply for a job. Even if you haven't heard of Reddit, it has been receiving plenty of media attention lately due to celebrity scandals and political issues. If you choose to use a professional service to create your LinkedIn resume, you'll be able to share your letter to the entire world, without having to worry about your computer crashing and losing your document.

Using New Features on LinkedIn to Attract Job Opportunities

Using New Features on LinkedIn to Attract Job Opportunities When I first started my career coaching business, I honestly had no idea as to the types of clients I would attract, and I didn’t have a clue as to the level of necessity, interest, and opportunity as a paid service there would be to help people use LinkedIn to find a new job.You Don’t Know What You Don’t KnowIt took me years to truly understand and recognize I had successfully learned and developed a specialized skillset in an area that was a source of pain, frustration, and confusion for so many people. There were many reasons for this, one reason simply being, “you don’t know what you don’t know.”What I did knowwas that I wanted to help more people transition into jobs and careers they wanted by applying the many contemporary job search strategies I had learned about during the writing of my first publication, “The Job Inner-View”. I didn’t yet know the unforeseen future of just how pivotal of a role using LinkedIn would play into my mission. However, what came a s the biggest surprise to me over this time was: how many of my clients were still employed when we worked together.Adjusting to Change to Help Job SeekersFurther into this article, I identify two great additions LinkedIn added in 2017 to help this specific demographic. Feel free to immediately scroll down to view, or you can continue reading to learn more about how I came to understand and identify their specific fears, obstacles, and challenges.Initially, I wrote a book on contemporary job search strategies with the intention to primarily help all the people who were unemployed, underemployed, or working 2-3 jobs (that often had nothing to do with their given field) embrace all the tools and changes I had discovered and adapted to myself when the economy had tanked in 2008.My book also addressed adjusting to the dramatic impacts made on the job search process by rapid advances in technology, and what I learned from interviewing dozens of leaders in the recruiting and hiring space during the writing of my 1st publication. Much to my own disappointment, I’ve often found it exceptionally more difficult to inspire the level (or quality) of change to these demographics as I had hoped for.Instead, I’ve experienced a more positive impact and less resistance working with people who are currently working one full-time, “soul-sucking” job, very unhappy with their current circumstances, and ready to leave ASAP.Embracing the Needs of a Special DemographicAs I’ve slowly embraced and focused on better serving this specific demographic over the years, I’ve experienced more fulfillment, better results, and a deeper awareness of the value I had to offer them. For example, many of these people in these circumstances come to me in a lot of pain and frustration; often feeling emotionally isolated, and physically, mentally, even spiritually “bankrupt.” They are not only working in a grueling, draining, toxic workplace, but are adding on an additional 10-15 hours a week on average looking for new work coupled with raising a family, being a spouse, and having an actual life! What I’ve consistently found is that once we collaborate and put together an effective strategy tailored to fit their individual needs and strengths, we reduced their search to 2-3 hours a week in addition to our 1 on 1 calls. Equally (if not more) importantly, they quickly begin feeling more confident, optimistic, energetic and significantly less stressed.Soon, they start functioning better in all other areas of their life. I’m sure you can also imagine how much better they show up to new job interviews (and even their current job) with this renewed spirit and energy.Helping Others Optimize Linkedin While on the JobOne of the primary areas I’ve also helped this demographic with has been optimizing their LinkedIn to attract new jobs while they still work at their current job. Now, if you’re reading this, you probably understand (and can identify with yourself) some o f the complexities, apprehensions, and perceived “obstacles” many of these people have when they come to me.Below are four of the more common ones:Fear of “getting caught” looking for work on LinkedIn by their current employer. Fear of their coworkers somehow catching on that they are using LinkedIn to look for work. Unsure of using LinkedIn for professional branding or how to “present themselves” to transition into a new role, position, industry, etc. when it would likely be very risky (and confusing) to communicate that while they still work for a specific company and industry. This being the first time they’ve EVER had to navigate doing something like this, (looking for a job while still working somewhere else, particularly, attempting to do so on a public social media platform where millions of other people can see them) they often have a significant apprehension and unclear strategy of whom in their network to connect with and reach out to as they navigate this un charted territory, and often remain stuck.Worried About Nothing?I hear these same types of fears and work through these seemingly “precarious” scenarios with my clients, or other people I speak with in a similar situation, all the time. And knock on wood, but after six years, I’ve never had a client’s worst fears of getting caught come to fruition.Hopefully, that is comforting and good news for you to hear. The other good news is that over the years, LinkedIn has continued to make changes and improvements to help job seekers currently working safely and successfully use the site to find a new job. Working With New Linkedin FeaturesWhile I strongly suggest that you (particularlyExecutive and Senior professionals) work with a professional who specializes in optimizing LinkedIn, LinkedIn is designed to help you effectively stand out amidst the millions of other “all-star” executives. Below are two great additions LinkedIn has addedin 2017to help people attract new opportuni ties and stay “under the radar.”1. Switching your profile to “secret job search mode.”A few months ago, LinkedIn rolled out a feature that privately lets recruiters know you are looking for work. Not only does it remain completely private, but by using this feature, it strongly optimizes your LinkedIn profile and helps you show up higher in recruiters' search results.2. Privately adding your desired industry to your profile. More recently, you can now put your desired industry and it doesn’t display publicly. Aside from the obvious value this provides if you are looking to change industries but don’t want that information publicly displayed, it is also a very powerful search tool that recruiters use in their advanced search for candidates. One of the statistics I learned from the staff over at LinkedIn while recently working for LinkedIn as a hired contractor on a new pilot program was that “Over 300,000 people search by industry on LinkedIn every week. Members listing the right industry are more likely to be discovered.”To select your desired industry on your profile, you go into edit mode in your “Introduction section” and hover over the arrow in “Industry.”More Linkedin Tips and StrategiesAnother tip and strategy I frequently use with people in this particular situation is to begin reconnecting and adding clients, coworkers, employers throughout their career-life on LinkedIn. Because so many of my clients are often in such a state of anxiety, confusion, and just plain feeling worn out when they come to me, they forget that LinkedIn is first and foremost a professional networking site, (not a job search engine) and that adding and connecting with your professional connections is an aim that anyone on the site could be doing that doesn’t implicate looking for another job. Being reminded of (or just learning) this fact brings a huge sigh of relief to my clients. My clients and I will put together a strategy consisting of setting specifi c, time-based goals which often includes making lists of specific people in their professional network on LinkedIn to reach out and reconnect with people they feel safe sharing about their current situation, hopping on phone calls, meeting in-person, emailing, exchangingprofessional recommendations with, etc. What always amazes me, and especially amazes my clients, are the types of opportunities that can quickly begin to present themselves as they are consistent in doing this. Additionally, many of their fears subside as they start to open up and share more about their current situation with others, learn that they’re not alone, and begin receiving assistance and support in their new journey.
